Why do guys lie about their penis size?

Dear Sex Doc,

I’ve dated a few guys and every one of them said they were bigger than they really were. Why do guys constantly lie about the size of their penises?

Erked With Exagerrators

Dear Erked With Exagerrators,

When I teach sex ed to 14 to 18 year old boys, half of them say their penises are so big they need large condoms. Statistically there is no way that all these guys are at the 99th percentile of penis length.

If a guy reveals the size of his member you can almost always subtract an inch or two. And Erked With Exagerrators, it obviously sounds like your prelimanary research would support this.

But, are you disappointed with the size of their penis or the fact that they lied? Because guys on the smaller side definitely have enough to make women happy.

Society puts so much pressure on guys to have large penises. And guys buy into this all the time. Guys are bombarded with messages that you aren’t a real man unless you're bigger than everyone else.

And when everyone else in the locker room says it grows to about eight when it’s hard, it’s pretty easy to get on that pseudo phallic bandwagon.

You’re right Erked With Exagerrators, guys need to be more honest with the length of their penis. And to be honest, why does it matter anyways? Guys are more than their manhood. Or, at least they should be.

Best regards,

Dr. Brian Parker
