Can I still have sex if I can't get an erection?

Dear Sex Doc,

I can’t get erections any longer. Can I still have any form of sex life?

No More Erections

Dear No More Erections,

Absolutely! I’m always amused when people assume that there is no way to have sex without a penis (whether hard or not) involved. It is important to remember that we have erogenous zones from the ends of our toes to the tips of our hair. In fact, our entire bodies are erogenous.

Whether you are no longer able to get erections because of age or an illness or disability which changed the functioning ability of your penis, a great sex life is still very much attainable. Even though your penis does not get erect it still contains a lot of nerve endings and will continue to be sensitive to touch. With stimulation you will most likely be able to have some feeling and blood flow to the penis. A man can even orgasm without a full erection.

Men that have lost full feeling in their penis often report that other areas of their bodies become much more sensitive. You may find this happening to you. This can be very pleasurable as well.

If you have a female partner who wants to be penetrated you could purchase a silicone dildo to use instead. You could even use a strap-on so it will be very much like the sex you had in the past.

Best regards,

Dr. Brian Parker
